OMG!!! WHERE IS MY NAPPY LOCK TOOL?

OMG!! Where is my Nappy Lock Tool? On Memorial day, I was lounging on my chaise tightening my locs. BF was in the garage securing the steps leading into the house. Before he starts any project, he has to get my seal of approval or else he will be sent home with his tail between his legs! LOL! He calls me for the seal of approval ,which is blissfully granted! I attempt to continue my re-ti. I can not find my tool! I look under the chaise, under the cushion, on the fireplace mantle. I run up stairs to the bedroom. I look on the dresser, on the night stand, and on the vanity in my bathroom. No tool!

I always misplace my tool and then find it in a few days. I usually have my plastic yarn needles as a back up! I looked in the vanity drawer and no more yarn needles! At this point, I`am crazy! The next day after work, I go to walmart to purchase some plastic yarn needles. They had none! By now, I `am desperate! so, I go down the road to Michael`s. I hate shopping at Michael`s. They are too darn expensive! I only go to michaels when they have a fierce sale on beads.

I go into michael`s to find the yarn needles. They have two in the pack for $ 1.49. That`s crazy! I usually get four needles at walmart for the same price! Well like I said before, I `am desperate!

I go home and begin to make my loc tool. I like these needles! The eye is very pliable. Usually, when I buy Walmart needles, I break at least one before I get one made. I did a re-ti! Now I`am very happy! I made a video for you who lost your Nappy Loc tool. Don`t get me wrong, I love my NL tool, and I will purchase another one! For now, this works very well for me. Any way, it is an inexpensive alternate and it`s readily available!

Its funny when I saw this video I'd just made one of those the night before. I paid for a Nappy Locs tool but never received a replacement once I'd returned the first one so I had to make my own. I also filed down the end to make it go through better. Do you know how to close up gaps and take the loc down more to the ends????

ADT_Loc`d, to fix the hole, just take your tool and go across the hole.

If you are not fully loc`d, you can take the tip of your tool or a metal yarn needle to push the pattern down towards the tip. Then, you can tighten the loose hair that you will get at the scalp when push the pattern down to rid of bunching or knots.

Wow thanks for that info. No I'm not locked yet, just got my locks installed two months ago actually but I'm not happy with my consultant's work and I'm trying to do what I can to save my locs instead of taking them down and paying to have to start over. I don't have any consultants in my area to go back over my hair.

I do appreciate your blogs, videos and advice.. I've been a stalker for a while and finally decided to post :)

You're brilliant. I tried to use this kiddie needle and do the same thing years ago when I had braidlocks but I didn't think about heating the eye in order to expand it. Thanks for the tutorial because if I ever lose my NL tool then I know I can just make a plastic one.

Its great isnt it to be able to buy plastic yarn needle and go to work adjusting it the way you want.

I did a similar post on making your own locking tool back in march labelled 'Tools'.

They do say great minds think alike!

Blessings

I never knew there was so much involved with dreadlocks. You should patent your method. I know that all of my important things are always in my Bathroom Vanity drawer.

You are awesome!! I lost my tool in the couch. I just made mine! I got the 4 pack from walmart. I used a letter opener for the hole. I almost melted mine, but it's fine, just black now. lol. Thank you so much! I won't be buying anymore $15 tools anymore!

that is absolutely awesome! I was just trying to figure out where I was going to get me a nappy loc tool from, thank you, thank you ,thank you.
You are truly a blessing,I have wanted interlocked locs for some time now but could not afford them.I found your tutorial and now am in process of learning how to do them myself so
I can hopefully do my own hair. You are truly a blessing because this procedure of interlocking is such a secret in the hair industry and I still do not understand why, there is enough hair and monies to go around,so in my mind why the big secret????Anyway thank God for sistahs like yourself who don't mind sharing the knowledge!
I have a question about the process when doing the pattern of interlocking I would like to ask you is it ok to ask questions?
Thank you again.
love,light and peace

p.s.Congratulations,on your recent wedding!!!!

Let me just tell you that I am soooo happy that I found this link and that you made this. I am a mother of five boys and I am on a budget. So replacing a tool is out of the question. However; I crochet and have sooo many of those blue plastic needles. I keep them all in my sewing bin (which is where I should have placed my tool) but needless to say after making my tool I need not purchase another one. THanks so much.
